Coffee Roasting

Beans

We used Yemen, Columbian Peaberry and Indian raw beans for this brew.

Coffee Roaster

We used a combination bread maker, and heat gun device that works surprisingly well. The end result is really not that far from a $1400 dollar amateur Coffee Roaster.

Method

We added all of the beans at once, turned on the heat gun (roasts the beans) and the bread maker (stirs the beans). Obviously the position of the heat gun is critical and is made possible by a zip tie and a metal rod. :)

The following images demonstrate how the beans change colour as the roasting process takes place. This entire process takes about 20 minutes, we basically stop when second crack starts. Notice the colours go from green to peanut to caramel then finally coffee. Obviously you also need to listen and smell to get the roasting right but this is just a guide.
